Kent cares deeply about the development of a new generation of leaders for the church. His particular interest is to champion integrative, context-based approaches to preaching and leadership development. Kent has taught and preached in hundreds of churches and ministry centers across North America and the world.

Kent holds two Master’s Degrees and a PhD with a major in preaching from Southwestern in Fort Worth, Texas. His dissertation project showed how preaching models have closely followed trends in culture. Kent’s project was to develop a new integrative model for preaching.

Since then, Kent has published three books on preaching, Choosing to Preach (Zondervan 2006), Preaching with Conviction (Kregel 2001), and Preaching with Integrity (Kregel 2003). His newest book, Integrative Preaching (Baker Academic) will appear in the fall of 2017. In addition, Kent owns and operates www.preaching.org where you can find his blog on preaching and culture. He also is a past president of the Evangelical Homiletics Society.

Kent joined the faculty of ACTS Seminaries in 1996 after serving as a local church pastor for more than 11 years. He became Dean of Northwest Baptist Seminary in 2001 and was appointed President in the fall of 2010. Along with his role as Professor of Homiletics at ACTS Seminaries of Trinity Western University, he is the director of the Centre for Ministry Excellence of TWU.

Kent is also known for developing the first competency-based master’s degree accredited by The Association of Theological Schools. Known as Immerse, this program utilizes mastery-model learning for the development of pastoral and ministry leaders coast-to-coast

Kent has been married to his wife, Karen for more than 33 years. Kent and Karen have three adult children and two grandchildren. He loves reading, golfing, and playing guitar.
